The Red Barn Studio Museum is excited to once again welcome artist Laura Baker the “pie lady” as artist-in-residence July 4-12.
While at the Red Barn, Laura will finish the illustrations and recipes for her second cookbook, Pie as Art Volume II. She also plans to paint china plate designs on round wooden plates using acrylic paint.
Laura’s artwork brings together her two loves—baking and painting—as well as her interest in antique plates. Laura collects antique plates as a background for her pie illustrations. She shows her appreciation for those antique plates by enlarging the images and painting the details on wooden discs in a highly realistic manner.
Laura invites visitors to see her pie illustrations for Pie as Art and perhaps snack on a piece of pie as they browse her paintings and enjoy their time in Lester’s home and studio.
Held in conjunction with the Smoky Valley Arts & Folklife Center’s 10th Annual Pie & Ice Cream Social on July 10, Laura’s reception will be on the front lawn of the Red Barn Studio Museum. Visitors are welcome to delight in a night of live music, pie, ice cream, and Laura’s artwork!
The Red Barn Studio Museum is located at 212 S. Main Street. The museum is open Tuesday-Friday, 10:00am-5:00pm and Saturday-Sunday, 1:00-5:00pm.
