The Smoky Valley Arts & Folklife Center is pleased to present Majnuna | مجنونة, featuring the work of artists Josh Novak and Josh Knott, July 3-26. A closing reception will be held on Sunday, July 26, beginning at 2:00pm.

Bringing together ceramic sculpture, functional pottery, collage, and mixed-media imagery, the exhibition explores how artists transform ideas, observations, and experiences into visual form.

Josh Novak’s work includes both figurative ceramic sculpture and functional vessels. His colorful, meticulously crafted pieces explore themes of obsession, desire, morality, and the human condition. Drawing inspiration from street art, contemporary culture, scientific illustration, and traditional ceramic techniques, Novak creates work that is both visually engaging and thought-provoking.

Josh Knott’s work examines the fragmented nature of art and life. Through a process of collecting, manipulating, and recombining images, drawings, photographs, and found materials, he creates layered compositions that blur the line between personal expression and appropriated imagery. This combination of personal mark-making and manipulated/appropriated source materials exemplifies a number of dualities, philosophically linked by their opposition.

Visitors can expect to see an assortment of Novak’s ceramic vessels and teapots alongside Knott’s image-based works, creating a dynamic exhibition that highlights two distinct yet complementary artistic approaches.

Smoky Valley Arts & Folklife Center is located at 114 1/2 S. Main Street. Hours are Friday-Sunday, 1:00-5:00pm.
