Proposal Summary

For nearly a year the McPherson Housing Coalition has developed and worked with the McPherson County Housing Task Force to bring each community into the discussion regarding housing needs and how to begin to address the needs. MHC has attended meetings with the City Councils in each community in McPherson County to involve them in the discussion regarding the County-wide housing study. The housing study is the first step in getting the data needed to be able to apply for housing grants through Kansas Housing Resource Corporation. The housing study will allow the County as a whole to apply for grants to bring housing into each of the communities in McPherson County.

Community Impact & Accomplishments To-Date

We will measure the impact by the number of housing starts and the growth in each community, which will use the data to move forward.

Why do you think this project is necessary?

The housing stock in every community needs to be increased. In order to encourage developers to build in the smaller communities in McPherson County, we need to make it more economically feasible and cost-effective. By having a housing study completed for the entire county, the type of housing needed for each community based on population trends and what the current housing stock looks like will be revealed. It will benefit the entire county because it will increase the economic viability of the entire county. This includes increased employment, schools, bringing in more services, assist employers in finding a workforce. People will no longer work here and drive out of our communities to another location to spend their paycheck.
