Proposal Summary

The McPherson County Underserved Health Services Program will fund adult health services offered at the McPherson County Health Department for those who do not have health insurance and fall at 200% or less on the Federal Poverty Level (with priority given to those at 100% or less). Services include but are not limited to adult immunizations, sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, and laboratory testing. The Health Department is often able to secure funding for uninsured child services but not uninsured adults. The Health Department is also able to secure pricing that other healthcare entities cannot match due to our local public health designation, which makes the cost of the service cheaper and ultimately allows us to spread the funding across more individuals.

Community Impact & Accomplishments To-Date

The McPherson County Health Department has an Electronic Health Record that has the ability to produce reports specific to program and funding. The Director at the Health Department at a minimum will run quarterly reports to measure the programs and number of individuals this funding has assisted. The Health Department offers a client satisfaction survey to all clients and the results are collected quarterly. Clients may indicate they were part of this program if they wish.

Why do you think this project is necessary?

The McPherson County Underserved Health Services Program will benefit the adult population that is often overlooked. The McPherson County Health Department is a resource hub that offers a variety of services to all individuals, regardless of their insurance coverage or financial status. The Voice Of Our Community Study emphasized the county-wide need for healthcare accessibility. Oftentimes uninsured adults cannot afford or are turned away from healthcare facilities. Local public health can assist them by providing general clinic services like immunizations, sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, laboratory testing like complete blood counts and other common labs, vouchers for vision exams, and more. The Health Department has also recently partnered with McPherson County Jail to serve the inmate population if they need any of the available services during or after incarceration which will improve the health of the communities they return to.
