Proposal Summary

Windom Lions Club and the Windom Church of Christ seek funding for placemaking at Windom park, which is the gateway to our town. Several years ago, the bathrooms were severely vandalized and are currently not useable. The merry-go-round has broken boards, and the metal slide is steep and very hot in the summer. We would like to replace broken plumbing, toilets, sinks, and mirrors, as well as fully repaint the interior and exterior of the bathrooms. We’d like to replace the slide with an enclosed twisting slide, as well as get supplies to repair broken playground equipment. While we will need to hire much of the bathroom work to be done, our organizations will rally volunteers to do the repairs and have a general work day for park beautification.

Community Impact & Accomplishments To-Date

We will measure it in the number of people we see using the park and by use of the bathrooms, which can be tracked “by the flush.”

Why do you think this project is necessary?

Without safe park equipment, the park is not will simply not be used. In the past, the park has been a venue for community movies, family reunions, and other group activities. Without bathrooms, groups will not likely choose the park as a meeting place. There are no other public bathrooms in town.
